Services for Deaf users

The Inquiry offers Deaf victims and survivors of child sexual abuse the opportunity to share their experience in the language of their choice. The sessions are delivered entirely by Deaf people.

We have partnered with SignHealth, the Deaf health charity, for this service. SignHealth can provide information and support to Deaf people in the communication method of their choice. This includes BSL, text, WhatsApp, email and video call. SignHealth will also help anyone requiring assistance to register to participate in the Truth Project.

"Deaf children are some of the most vulnerable in society and by specifically making provision for those with hearing difficulties we can empower all Deaf victims and survivors to come forward, if they choose”  - an Inquiry staff member who is Deaf.

An introduction to the Inquiry

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse was set up because of  serious concerns that some organisations had failed and were continuing to fail to protect children from sexual abuse.

Our remit is huge, but as a statutory inquiry we have unique authority to address issues that  have persisted despite previous inquiries and attempts at reform.

The Truth Project

The Truth Project enables victims and survivors to share their experiences and be respectfully heard and acknowledged.  They will help us to better understand the long term impact of abuse. Their contribution will help us make recommendations about support needs, as well as challenging our assumptions about child sexual abuse.
