117. It appears to have been common knowledge in Rochdale from at least the late 1970s that there were rumours that Cyril Smith had been involved in sexual activity with young men and boys. Allan Buckley told us that he had been involved in the Labour Party and rumours had circulated among party activists, although the only time he saw anything more than rumour and gossip was the article in RAP in 1979.^[1]
