1. Child sexual exploitation can occur in any community and it is crucial that practitioners do not make assumptions about who might be a victim or a perpetrator. However, research indicates that children in residential care and those with disabilities are at increased risk of sexual exploitation.^[1] In addition, while girls are most frequently the victims of child sexual exploitation, there is less recognition of the extent to which boys and young men are also targeted by perpetrators.
