Counsel to the Inquiry Brian Altman QC

Counsel to the Inquiry Brian Altman QC

Brian was Treasury Counsel at the Old Bailey for 16 years, ending his highly successful tenure in June 2013 as First Senior Treasury Counsel. He ‘took silk’ (became Queen’s Counsel) in 2008 and has been a Recorder of the Crown Court (a part-time judge) since 2003.

His work has seen him prosecute cases of serious crime, such as terrorism and homicide, and he has enjoyed a long and successful career as leading counsel, appearing in some of the most serious and high profile cases of the day. These days he tends to do more advisory work, but he does continue to prosecute serious cases and defend clients in equal measure.

Brian has been listed by the legal directories for many years as a leading lawyer. He has been described in Chambers Directory as “a force of nature”, and his work has been described as “... just outstanding and his judgement is impeccable”.

Brian has already appeared as Lead Counsel to the Inquiry during the Cambridge House, Knowl View and Rochdale investigation in October 2017.

Brian is married with four children, and lives in west London. His pastimes include fitness training and scuba diving (he is qualified as a PADI rescue diver), and he enjoys music.
