Martin is seconded to the Inquiry from the law firm Fieldfisher, where he is a partner in the public & regulatory law group.  Martin specialises in public law, regulation, inquests and inquiries, with a particular track record of advising those conducting major public inquiries, inquests and other types of investigation. Martin’s list of previous inquiries includes the Inquest into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Al Fayed, the 7/7 London bombings inquests, the inquest into the death of Alexander Litvinenko and the new inquests arising from the Hillsborough disaster. He also acted as solicitor to the Baha Mousa Inquiry in its later stages and was solicitor to the Hutton Inquiry.

Martin is listed as a leading individual for public and administrative law in Chambers and as having 'extremely good judgment'. The Legal 500 in 2013 quotes sources saying that he is 'probably the best and most experienced public inquiry / inquest solicitor around, and has a wealth of experience in very high-profile cases' and In 2015 as being "a man of enormous tact and wisdom".

In his spare time Martin enjoys trips in his campervan, cooking, and walking his beloved beagle Dora.
